Converting a model to FBX

How to create Virtual Experiences,

Revit

  1. In Revit, open a 3D viewer, and prepare it for export.
  2. Click File tab > Export > FBX.
    Tip: if FBX displays as grey, open a 3D view of the project and try again.
  3. In the Export 3ds Max (FBX) dialog, for Save in, navigate to the target folder for the exported file.

Sketchup

  1. Select File > Export > 3D Model. The Export Model dialog box appears.
  2. Navigate to the location where you want to save your file.
  3. From the drop-down list, select FBX File (*.fbx).
  4. (Optional) By default, your exported file has the same file name as your SketchUp model. Change the name if you like in the File Name text box.
  5. (Optional) see converting a model to fbx including textures below  
  6. Click Export and your file is saved in the location you selected.

ArchiCAD

  1. Open the model you would like to export in 3D view.
  2. Choose File / Save as… command and select file type 3DStudio File (*.3ds) format and save your model.

Converting a Model to FBX including textures (Sketchup Only)

For textured wireframes, complete the following:  

  1. Select File > Export > 3D Model. The Export Model dialog box appears.
  2. Navigate to the location where you want to save your file.
  3. From the drop-down list, select FBX File (*.fbx).
  4. (Optional) By default, your exported file has the same file name as your SketchUp model. Change the name if you like in the File Name text box.
  5. (Optional) Click the Options button to open the FBX Export Options dialog box. Select your options as per below and click OK to return to the Export Model dialog box.
    Additional Options:  
    Export Only Current Selection: Leave un-selected  
    Triangulate All Faces: Leave un-selected
    Export Two-Sided Faces: Leave un-selected
    Separate Disconnected Faces: Leave un-selected
    Export Texture Maps:Tick ‘Selected’
    Swap YZ Coordinates (Y Is Up): Leave un-selected
    Units: Leave un-selected
  6. Click Export and your file is saved in the location you selected.
